Arts
In MYP Arts students have opportunities to function as artists, as well as learners of the arts. Artists have to be curious. By developing curiosity about themselves, others and the world, students become effective learners, inquirers and creative problem-solvers. Students develop through creating, performing and presenting arts in ways that engage and convey feelings, experiences and ideas. It is through this practice that students acquire new skills and master those skills developed in prior learning.
The aims of MYP Arts are to encourage and enable students to create and present art , develop skills specific to the discipline, engage in a process of creative exploration and (self-)discovery, make purposeful connections between investigation and practice, understand the relationship between art and its contexts, respond to and reflect on art, deepen their understanding of the world.
MYP 1 – 3, CAIS students engage in two discrete arts disciplines, Visual Arts and Performing Arts (Music and Drama) to provide sustained learning experience throughout the entire school year.
MYP students may choose Visual Art, Music, Design or Drama to study for two years in MYP 4 and 5.
They will learn and apply creative thinking, process, knowledge, skill, and art specific language through a deeper and wide range of inquiry based learning experience. Students will experience various units to develop conceptual understanding in global contexts by using a statement of inquiry and inquiry questions to explore the arts.
