The DP curriculum

The DP is made up of six subject groups with three components in the core as shown in the IB Diploma Programme Model above. 

Higher level & Standard level                         Students must study one subject from each group and at least three (and not more than four) of the subjects in Higher Level (HL) with a minimum of 240 teaching hours; and three others in Standard Level (SL) with a minimum of 150 teaching hours.  

DP students must choose one subject from each group from the first five groups.

The sixth subject can be from the Arts or another subject from groups 2, 3, or 4. Language Ab Initio courses are for those beginning study of a new language, only offered in standard level.

Please note that school has the right to alter the courses available depending to the number of demand, school resources and any strategic reason. 

Each subject from Group 1 to Group 6 is assessed on a scale of 1 (minimum) to 7 (maximum).

The DP Core (Theory of Knowledge - Extended Essay - Creativity, Activity and Service) 

The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, together with the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) are three additional academic requirements unique to the DP.

TOK is organized to be an interdisciplinary program where students are helped to integrate what they are learning in all their courses and challenged to act on it. TOK provides the DP student the opportunity to see how seemingly distinct forms and approaches to knowledge may share links or connections and have personal relevance beyond the classroom.

The Extended Essay (EE) provides the valuable experience of completing an independent research 4000 words paper, which explores the relationships among the various topics and ensures that students engage in critical reflection and analysis of the knowledge acquired within and beyond the classroom

Creativity Activity and Service (CAS) is extra-curricular activities that encourage students to gain experience in creativity, physical activities and social service program that lead them to achieve their learning outcomes. 

TOK and EE are assessed on a scale of A (maximum) to E (minimum), together combined generates maximum of 3 core bonus points. The highest possible total score for diploma student is 45 points.

CAS has no grade but is compulsory to be eligible for the Diploma. 

Diploma Requirements

The following failing conditions to get Diploma Award are as follows: 

1. CAS requirements have not been met. 
2. Candidate’s total points are fewer than 24. 
3. An N has been given for theory of     knowledge, extended essay or for a contributing subject. An “N” means there is no grade has been awarded for one or more of the following reasons:
- Withdrawal from the examination session
- Failure to complete one or more component of assessment
- A breach of regulations
4. A grade E has been awarded for one or both of theory of knowledge and the extended essay. 
5. There is a grade 1 awarded in a subject/level. 
6. Grade 2 has been awarded three or more times (HL or SL). 
7. Grade 3 or below has been awarded four or more times (HL or SL). 
8. Candidate has gained fewer than 12 points on HL subjects (for candidates who register for four HL subjects, the three highest grades count). 
9. Candidate has gained fewer than 9 points on SL subjects (candidates who register for two SL subjects must gain at least 5 points at SL).
