Leadership

Welcome to all members of our CAIS community! As I come to the end of my first year at CAIS, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the students and their families, and to all of the education and supporting staff for making my time here memorable. We worked hard collectively to increase academic rigor in our school and to maintain a learning environment that is supportive of students and their academic achievement. We can all be proud as we finish the 15th academic year in our school’s history.

While we faced some serious challenges this academic year and spent considerable time in an online learning environment, the key events of the year certainly have to include the winter camp activities and field trips, the sporting events that promoted healthy exercise, and all of the extra-curricular and student-chosen activities in which students participated. In addition to hosting professional musicians for the Thanksgiving Concert, we also enjoyed student and teacher musical performances during the Winter Concert and the Chinese New Year Celebrations. We gathered as a community for our Christmas Market to enjoy the student performances and our first art auction. Secondary Student Council hosted a Haunted House and Halloween Dance, and House Captains assisted in the preparation of many special assemblies. MYP 1 and 2 students were lucky enough to have a sleep over night at school which we will extend to more grade levels next year. Our Primary and Early Years students participated in spirit days when they could showcase their crazy hair styles and the latest in pajama fashion. I particularly enjoyed seeing all of our students and teachers be mesmorized by the Lion Dance when we welcomed the Year of the Tiger.

As we are taking stock of current global circumstances and planning for the next academic year, I would like all of us to be motivated by this Helen Keller quote, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” Together, we certainly developed character in our response to the challenges that are facing our world. I hope you will take all of our experiences at CAIS this academic year and prepare for a bright future together.

We encourage all parents to be involved in their child’s learning and in the wider CAIS family. On behalf of all of our teachers I invite you to become our partners in educating your children.
